Why can't I, lay me down to sleep?
Praying the Lord my soul to keep, in slumber sweet, as the baby's rest in rocker bye baby land,
There sheep walk in single file, one, two three,
Trees blowing in the wind, cooling my feverish head,
Rhythm, sounds, plans, lists, ideas, people, climbing up the walls of my mind, reaching high into its steeple.
New day dawns, without the soft kiss of refreshing, awakening from sleep.
Sleep in celestial peace, pieces of me rest but not in sleep's peace.
