If Only We Knew

If Only We Knew

If we knew what we were before we came

When for the first time we heard our name

Called by a familial voice on another day

Responded, hoping life would be okay

If we knew what would befall us when bruised

The path we chose with others just left us used

To love our fellowmen who brought us pain

Such as occurs time and time again

If we knew what would come our way

The trials and adversities even as we pray

The future we would like to know

Yet it's best for us when it doesn't show

So, I'll relax on this beach here, where waters lap at my fair feet

To know not what's to come is just a treat

If only we knew what was to come

This life we live will be no fun

There's another place looked for by many

Who resting from their labors, they sleep

The hope of these one day will with certainty

Assured by A Body the grave and hell couldn't keep
