Grief

Grief

Such pain, an aching void that fills the soul

The moment you came, all will never be the same

Of all the emotions created, first felt by you

Dearest God when from such a heart of love

Created all from nothing, yet for rebellion

Disdain by those you love, first felt by you

It pains the heart in such a place

It rips, consuming, yet for love

In love choice cannot be taken

Love is its principle, its very essence

To truly love, choice must be present

A broken heart only possible by love, by it

It is only possible if you truly love

God is love, first touched by it when we strayed

A love beyond all understanding, deep, strong

Will hug, forgive, restore, even when wronged

From an Eternal Heart to temporal hearts

Capable of love we will know it, cannot escape

From a conceptual thought, it's placed

To be experienced by all, after His image

It is everywhere, in the air, in my despair

It sleeps with me, walks with me, talks with me

As I'm alive, in my being, ever ready to show

Reminds me of what I need to know

That to love is to choose it, to let go

As one's pet's death in one's youth; to let go

Such are those from the years of one's life

For all the love shown, joys we've known

Separated, taken violently, yea peacefully

From eternity never to be known; but for love

In my ignorance I'm reminded why I live

To live is to love, to hurt, to meet it

Once again we meet in this life

You say to me, until time ends, life ends

You cannot touch me, yet I will touch you

You cannot see me, yet you will feel me

A burden heart, tearfilled eyes, sleepless nights

When the appetite fails, a painful wail

You will know me as you give birth

As all have and will, living on the earth

All alive, all ever lived will know me, feel me

I will remind you of time

As you lay in your bed waiting, labored breath

Your life's journey coming to an end

An entire life flashed in panoramic view

You, your thoughts, your willingness to lay it down

No one else around but your faith, your God

Dearest loved, I remained with what's left

A heart, torn, broken by your departure

Separated, a great divide I can't bridge

Groping to find answers, meaning to life

I see my mortality and I'm aware

Time for all is limited, fragile, so near

I'll help lay you down as you once did me

In my innocence, in my infancy

When all I had next to God was you

First eyes I saw when I opened mines

As tears flow as yours once I knew

As difficult it is to let you go

As many have felt in the passage of time

I'll always be yours and you'll be mine

I'm not far off, we are all so near

As we live it, for all we hold so dear

You sleep, yet you shall awake

At the sound of the next voice

The next voice to call us home
