The Thin Line

The Thin Line

I came to know you when oh so young

Looking in the mirror to see you was fun

You look at me and we smiled at each other

Then it dawned, my awareness had come

I knew me and I liked what I saw

Maybe if I kept on looking I'd find out

Who this person was and so much more

I knew not who this person was before

Now I've found someone I can talk about

Much too young to know, a cruel world awaits To get me, even try to determine my fate

Given the chance dare to isolate

Break my will, determine to confiscate

I will need you by my side in my sojourn

My constant friend and guide, I can't hide

Only you will help chart the way I go

A life lived, is what I'll have to show

It will never be for my good, to be alone

Not having you for myself, all my own

Even present, even when I'm asleep

I awake, you're here with me, we greet

Choices, I made, plans I pursued,

All that that I accrued, I owe to you

I need you as life itself, keeps renewed

Sustained by your presence you're in all I do

When I came to know you, oh so young

Looking back at you was so much fun

We blew kisses at each other

Rubbed our faces in the mirror

No care in the world for us to bother

It was no small wonder then as I now ponder

The innocence of it all, what I'll now do?

If I don't have you to call

For you might just skip away, even slip away

I'll be left in my remorse to search for you

My friend, a constant in life, inspite of all

With regret, I'd rather never known you

Than to not have you by my side on that day

Will this temple of mine remain just fine

The wine of age will it taste better, more refine

Recognize those, so precious, even my love

Talk of favorite times, of blessings from above

A shell I hope will still contain

All that is me I hope to retain

As the sun caresses my face to wake up

The moon smiles at me to sleep at peace

I will not fear when my lights are shut

My mind is centered, fully at ease

Many a threat lurks to take you away

Temptations abound to touch the other side

This edifice begins to crumble as others do

Will I still have you as when we were young to see me through

Will you be by my side until the moment I close my eyes

As you were, when I first opened them
